Hey Community, New look, who dis? π First, thank you for rocking with me. Your support and engagement in this community we are building is paramount! Be on the lookout for this newsletter hitting your inboxes every two weeks! π¬ π§ If you follow my content, you know I have been sharing much on social justice education. I recently shared a post that faced some backlash from trolls. π§ It's a subject that often faces objections and misconceptions, but I believe it's worth pushing through those barriers because our students deserve it. First, let's address a common misunderstanding: engaging in social justice education does not mean we have to agree with every idea or perspective presented. π£οΈ It's not about blindly accepting everything that comes our way. Instead, it's about fostering critical thinking and creating spaces for meaningful dialogue. Much of the discourse will cause us to believe social justice is a purely political topic - either by the right or left. β Social justice education invites us to explore diverse perspectives, challenge our assumptions, and broaden our understanding of the world. π It encourages us to critically examine systems of power and privilege and work towards a more equitable and inclusive society. By exposing students to different narratives and empowering them to question the status quo, we equip them with the tools they need to become active and engaged citizens. Between politicians and pundits, social justice has become a political tool. But let's be clear: it's about addressing the inherent inequalities that exist within our society. It's about cultivating empathy, compassion, and understanding. It's about acknowledging the systemic barriers that some of our students face and creating a supportive environment where all individuals can thrive. By teaching social justice, we are not pushing a specific agenda or trying to indoctrinate anyone. We are simply providing an opportunity for students to develop critical consciousness, think critically about their world, and find their own voices within it. I understand that discussing social justice can be uncomfortable, and it's natural for objections to arise. But let's remember that growth and progress often come from discomfort. Engaging in these conversations creates spaces for growth, learning, and transformation. Our students and our world deserve it. β Regardless of where you might find yourself, remember that liberation requires community. We are in this together. Share this with a teacher bestie who could use the encouragement and invite them to subscribe! I have some exciting π₯ coming your way! 'Til next time, let's keep pushing. βπΎπͺπΎ Yours In Liberation, Bobby When you're ready, here are three ways I can help:

Hey Community, It's been a minute, hasn't it? Life has been lifin', and amidst the whirlwind, there have been some changes I wanted to share with you all. First, I have bittersweet news to share: I'm no longer on Instagram (let's take a moment of silence). It wasn't an easy decision, but as a recovering perfectionist and people pleaser, I realized my relationship with the platform had become unhealthy. The constant pressure of the algorithm and the culture of consumerism didn't align with my...
Hey Reader, Have you seen the viral TikTok video of the teacher speaking on the grade level of his students (click here to see the video)? It has caused quite a debate. The gaps in learning we are seeing aren't new. However, the pandemic has undoubtedly put the magnifying glass up to these preexisting inequities. This has raised the question: who is to blame? Cue the constant finger-pointing. The parents blame the teachers. The teachers blame the parents and administration. The administration...
Hey Reader, If you've ever planned an event or party, you know the pressure of ensuring everything is in place. You mull over details: Are the decorations in place? Are there enough accomodations for everyone? The process can be nerve-racking. Underneath all the emotions is this truth - how I plan for my guests communicates something about their value in my life. I am feeling all of those emotions planning for the arrival of my staff and students this year. I want to communicate that I...
